Description

Become a citizen scientist and together, we can help save the frogs!

Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve has it's own FrogWatch USA chapter, and we are holding FrogWatch volunteer certifcation training on Saturday,June 6th from 5-9pm. This four hour training class will certify you to input data into the FrogWatch USA database and help FrogWatch USA monitor frog and toad populations in Alabama. This free class will be divided into two parts: a lecture section and a lab section. In the lecture section, FrogWatch coordinators will teach you how to identify common frogs in North-Central Alabama, by sight and by sound, and how and when to record FrogWatch Data. In our lab portion, weather permitting, we will meet over at the Irondale side of the mountain and, at dusk with coordinators in tow, take a one mile in, one mile out, walk on even ground to Ruffner's own wetlands and listen to the frogs there. We will then enjoy a walk back in the dark together.

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about local frogs and take a walk in the dark with two expert guides! The class will be led by our Education Coordinator, Shasha McCracken, and Wildlife Curator, Chivon Morse.

Light refreshments will be offered. Please arrive 5 minutes early for class.
